Tom and Jerry are Camp Horizons’ new barn kittens! Tom and Jerry love to cuddle with barn visitors and also help run the mice out of the barn! They cannot wait to meet all the campers this summer!
Meet the Four-Legged Staff
Layla is Bridget’s dog and is becoming a staple at Camp Horizons’ barn! Layla LOVES helping camp staff school the horses and playing fetch, with just about anything. She is ½ Welsh Corgi, ½ Miniature Australian Shepherd, so that makes her 100% perfect barn dog! Layla understands that some campers may be intimidated or allergic to dogs, so she will have her own space to hang out in this summer. In the winter, she can be seen sporting her pink doggie blanket! In the summer, Layla likes to keep cool by eating vanilla ice cream, just like you!
Belle is a Racking Pony which brings much uniqueness to the barn at Camp Horizons. Belle is 9 years old and stands a little taller than Tigger and Snowflake! Belle loves having children ride her and participating in birthday parties!
Camp Horizons is so excited to have our Quarter Pony, Honey! Honey is perfect to ride whether you are riding on the flat, jumping fences or out on the trails!
Beautiful Betty failed as a racehorse but is thriving as a camp horse! She loves the laid back atmosphere of camp and is super out on the trails. Hopefully she’ll learn to go swimming this summer in 2013!
Alvin is 14 hands high and he is a Welsh/Arab cross. Alvin is as silly as ponies come and was an all-star during camp last summer in 2012! Alvin can often be found rough housing with his best friend, Moose!
Tennie, short for Tennessee, is also new to Camp Horizons and comes to us with our new Equestrian Director, Bridget. Tennie is 16.1 hands high and full American Thoroughbred. Tennie LOVES living at camp and especially loves spending time with Snowflake and Diablo. Her favorite treats are peppermints and watermelon, though she is not a picky eater!
Stella is brand new to Camp Horizons in 2013 and is SO happy to be here!! Stella is an American Thoroughbred and stands 16.2 hands high. Stella comes to us from a busy life of 3 day eventing with Courtney Cooper but we think she is settling in well and making friends in the Camp herd. Here is Stella and Charlie Brown, her new pony boyfriend!
Tigger is a black Welsh Pony Cross gelding. He was born in 1986 and came to camp in 2008. Since Tigger has been at camp, he has taught many people to ride. Standing at 11 hands tall, he is just a few inches bigger than Snowflake.
Snowflake is our smallest pony. A pony stands 10 to 14.2 hands and weighs 300 to 850 pounds, while a horse stands 14.2 to 17 hands and weighs 800 to 1,300 pounds. Snowflake is a Welsh pony cross Shetland pony. Shetland ponies are hardy and strong, in part because the breed developed in the harsh conditions of the Shetland Isles. In appearance, Shetlands have a small head, widely-spaced eyes and small and alert ears. Snowflake is so friendly and likes lots of attention. She was born in 2001 and came to camp in 2008.
